What happens if you use up all your megabytes?
You are not cut off from accessing your system. For every additional megabyte that you require you will be charged an additional rate per MB. Is this expensive? No it is not. It is the data equivalent of sending 30 or more SMS’s at a cost of between R7.50 and R24.00 for the 30 SMS’s depending on your tariffs.
How is usage measured?
When you review all of the packages offered for SPOT there is a reference to Megabytes. The transfer of data depletes this amount. For example if you connect to the camera for a minute you will have used up approximately 3.5% of the 10 megabyte package or 1% of the 37.5 megabyte package.
What does setup entail?
The setup step is critical to the operation. The Switch will deliver the appropriate software (cell phone dependant) and instruct the user on how to access this software and its use. Without this the end user will not be able to connect to his camera..
What do you mean by activation?
When we discuss activation we are talking about the SIM card operating on the network. The SIM card inside the camera is not active until it is associated with an approved application form. It differs from the normal process for a cell phone where the end user must call and request this process to begin, MTN and SPOT have automated the process so that it happens after approval of the application form.
Why is GPRS important to SPOT?
SPOT is the first product in the world to successfully stream live frame across a GPRS network to a handset. Is this important? Yes. GPRS phones comprise the majority of the networks’ active phones. 3G is around 8%. GPRS covers 90% of the country. 3G covers 10%. 3G is faster but most people are not covered or do not have a cell phone capable of running it.
